Rafel Plana and the Ideal Orchestra. Mónica Mar: Frida Kahlo’s music (Barcelona; soundtrack / world music)
We were able to enjoy an immersive experience at the Ideal Centre d'Arts Digitals de Barcelona this year, which took us over to the vital and artistic universe of the Mexican, Frida Kahlo. The visual richness of that digital creation was accompanied, however, by a soundtrack based on popular Mexican songs and which had been composed expressly by Rafel Plana, a musician, composer and producer who has been in close contact, through his career, with the world of dance, theatre and films. You may have heard his creations in the Ideal exhibitions’ soundtracks, in short films made by your film-makers from the ESCAC, in dance shows or in collaboration with the actor Viggo Mortensen in a show of music and poetry.
You will be hearing him at the La Mercè festivities, in a completely new premiere, recreating the soundtrack he composed for the immersive exhibition on Frida Kahlo, a choice of creations such as Adelita, Sandunga and Llorona, which we will hear it sung by Mónica Mar, a Mexican actress and singer who lives in Barcelona and has a voice that will amaze you. He show will feature projections on to the wall located behind the Teatre Grec’s stage and which promise to bring the stone to life. With Juanjo Barreda singing and on guitar and ukulele, Dani Tejedor on drums, Ivan Kovacevik on double bass, (arranged by) Joan Torrentó on violin and Jon Cottle on cello. They will be accompanied by the swing band Swing Engine, with Juli Aymí on clarinet, Cesc Badia on trumpet, Serrano on trombone, Johannes North on tuba, Pablo Ruiz on washboard) and Joan Torrentó on banjo. Travel to Mexico... without setting foot outside Montjuïc.
