Concert "Uma Uma & Lucy Lu" dins de "La Mercè és Música"
Uma: Uma & Lucy Lu (Catalonia; experimental folk)
Uma Bunnang, the Catalan daughter of a Thai father and British mother, and the musician and producer Luke Bower, aka Lucy Lu, spent the lockdown in a country house composing songs. The result was The Moth and The Dove (2021), the second album from an artist better known under the stage name of Uma, publishing hypnotic numbers such as Mockingbird, her first hit, which brings together folk and experimental sounds. In 2020, Uma presented Bel·li (2020), her first EP, released by the British label Slow Dance, with numbers such as Astronaut and others that speak of love and the beauty of existence, or about loss, tragedy and vulnerability, with a delicate, well-crafted sound. This was the result of the artist's lifetime of travel, spending periods in a Bangkok suburb, where her father worked, or travelling around half the world with her mother to performing arts festivals.
Her lifestyle has involved less travel of late, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has stopped her performing her music live, so she has worked on composing. With influences ranging from Joni Mitchell to Ella Fitzgerald, Bebel Gilberto and Buika, they have created music as if it were a sort of therapy, allowing them to tackle issues that they had not discussed before. The result is songs like Nebula, the first single off the album, which will transport you. It will be performed by a trio playing synthesisers, guitar and vocals, and bass and drums.
