Concert "Vozes + Eva Fernández: A Tribute to Wayne Shorter"
Pl Major de Nou Barris, 1
A tribute to Wayne Shorter
Vozes + Eva Fernández
Projects such as Vozes, dedicated to “rescuing” vulnerable children and teenagers through the teaching and practice of music, are a clear example of the fact that music can be an excellent tool for integration and social cohesion. Vozes is an organisation that has been creating warm hearts and symphony orchestras made up of children at risk of exclusion for over twenty years, presenting over a thousand concerts. Their work earned them the City of Barcelona Prize in the education category in 2021.
Jazz is another of the musical styles that the Vozes community works with, and it's also the speciality of saxophonist and singer Eva Fernández, a promising talent and a rising star in the genre in Catalonia. And at La Mercè, Vozes and Fernández join forces to pay tribute to one of the giants of jazz, Wayne Shorter, the American saxophonist and composer who left us in March this year, and who, as the New York critics point out, was “probably the best small group jazz composer and one of the best improvisers in the genre”.
A Tribute to Wayne Shorter Honours Wayne Shorter brings two careers and two initiatives together in a single concert. A festival of talents united by music, and of admiration for a jazz legend.
