Dance with Kyiv. Ukrainian Folk
Ukrainian popular dance draws from a centuries-old tradition. The Kyiv Academic Theater of Ukrainian Folklore ‘Berehynia’ knows this very well. As the leading folkloric group from the capital of Ukraine, they will showcase a dance performance within the La Mercè Street Arts programme (on the 23 and 24) and conduct a workshop for audiences of all ages on the afternoon of 25 September, all on the Nord Station Park.
On the morning of the 25, they will also perform at Plaça Sant Jaume so that citizens who have enjoyed the Stick-Dance Morning can experience traditional dances from Eastern Europe, and more specifically, from Kyiv, the guest city of the Festa Major for the second consecutive year.
Dance with Kyiv. Ukrainian Folk will unveil ancient customs and rituals, dances from evening celebrations or festivities; it will captivate us with the power and dynamism of the hopak, the kolomyika, or the polka, some of the most dazzling dances in their repertoire. And if we are left wanting more, at 4 pm, we can attend the masterclass that the company will be holding outside the Nord Station. It will be another opportunity to familiarise ourselves with Ukrainian folklore through its foremost representatives.
