La Mercè musical fireworks display
Last year, the La Mercè festival concluded with a musical fireworks display that had suddenly become huge. This was because, in order to avoid crowds, instead of being focused on Avinguda de Maria Cristina as usual, the show involved the entire city, making it more powerful and impressive. So good was the experience that this year's musical fireworks display will once again have four launching points at various districts in the city, with the same height and power as in 2020, turning Barcelona's entire sky into a gigantic stage for a light and colour show that can be watched either directly with the naked eye or on TV3. If you tune in to Catalan TV, you will be able to listen to the soundtrack that goes with the launch of the fireworks as you watch from your window, balcony or roof.
The fire show, which will be around twenty minutes long, will revolve around a soundtrack carefully selected by the show sound and soundtrack designer Jordi Bonet and the critic and programmer Jordi Turtós. Many of the tracks to which the fireworks show will take place will be a tribute to Havana, the La Mercè 2021 guest city. However, there will also be a musical commemoration of the 150th anniversary of an annual festival that is the true image of the people's Barcelona. The musical fireworks display also comes with a blog commemorating the celebration in 2020 of the centenary of the Pau Casals Orchestra's first concert, which was promoted by Pau Casals himself and held at the Palau de la Música Catalana, as well as the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven.
