Gregorian chants and the high-pitched voices of the castrati were two of Lido Pimienta’s sources of inspiration for La belleza, a new record in which European classical music and the artist's personal life engage in a surprising dialogue. This was conceived by an artist born in Barranquilla in 1986, who has lived in Canada since she was young. She rose to fame in 2017 when she won the Polaris Music Prize (for best Canadian record of the year) with the LP La Papessa. As the author of songs that address discrimination based on race or gender, the experience of motherhood and Latin identity, musically she combines elements of Afro-Colombian folk with others from electronica and contemporary synthetic pop. In 2020, she released the album Miss Colombia, and five years later, she presents La belleza, an orchestral work she is now bringing to Moll de la Fusta.
