Martha Da’ro

R&B / Indie – Belgium / Angola

Music, film, theatre… all of these form part of the artistic journey of Martha Da’ro, a Belgian-Angolan musician whose multidisciplinary career draws inspiration from life itself. She avoids musical labels, but her experimental, cutting-edge sound echoes R&B and, at times, blends indie pop with hip-hop – always with a deeply personal style. Each song tells a story with its own soundtrack, creating a haunting experience that shifts between moods and genres: from distorted R&B to hypermodern electrosoul and a contemporary take on the blues. Like a modern-day Billie Holiday, say those who follow her closely – but reimagined by Björk.

In 2023, the artist released her only full-length album to date, Philophobia (meaning “fear of being loved”), an intensely cinematic work. Its atmosphere is both an evocative sound art installation and a deceptively simple musical album – one we’ll be able to experience at La Mercè.

Shows for all audiences.
