Sardana dancing. Cobla La Principal del Llobregat
The Agrupació Cultural Folklòrica Barcelona (ACFB) has been promoting and supporting sardana dancing since 1922. It began to organise popular sardana dances in Plaça de Sant Jaume in 1950, and in 2010 it started organising the ones held in Pla de la Catedral on Sunday mornings and holidays.
For La Mercè, the ACFB is hosting a participatory sardana gathering so that anyone who wants to don a pair of espadrilles and join a circle can do so. The Sardana Dance which will be held on the afternoon of 23 September in Plaça de Sant Jaume, will be accompanied by the cobla band La Principal del Llobregat in their first time participating in the Festival. The same band will provide the music for the Contest of Sport Sardana Groups and the Sardana Dance on Avinguda de la Catedral the following day, 24 September, coordinated by the Federació de Colles Sardanistes de Barcelona.
La Principal del Llobregat is a cobla band almost one century old. Created in Cornellà del Llobregat in 1929, they were given the Cross of Saint George in 2004, a year that dovetailed with the 75th anniversary of their founding.
