Spellbound Contemporary Ballet: If You Were a Man (Italy)
ROME, GUEST CITY
With admirable, ultra-precise technique, the four dancers in If You Were a Man surrender to a dance that is as strange as it is captivating. A striking yet delicate, subtle and expressive choreography that takes the human body to incredible extremes and confirms that there are no limits to contemporary creation.
Here, the internationally renowned Spellbound Contemporary Ballet carries out a study on sounds and silences, movement and listening: could we learn to ‘listen’ to a silent body? The vibrations of its breath? This company thinks so, and shows it through a piece in which small bodily sounds or strategies can indicate what is about to happen.
According to Mauro Astolfi, If You Were a Man invites the audience to pay attention to the voices and sounds around them and to decipher the information communicated by movement or a breath, the power or cadence of footsteps, or a silent reaction to an event. A beautiful proposal packed with emotion.
