Contemporary folk – Barcelona
Can you imagine the voices of Marta Torrella and Helena Ros echoing in the open air of such a unique venue as the Teatre Grec? That’s exactly where they’ll be this Mercè, presenting a new album that plays with notions of tragic thought and features characters facing unstoppable consequences – both familiar and unknown. The result is a performance that blends the experimental with the elemental, sung in Catalan and Spanish, as well as Italian, Latin and Ladin. “Si veriash a la rana”, “Beata viscera”, “Turba mirum” and “La Font”[1] are among the songs the duo are sure to perform in this evening concert at the Teatre Grec, programmed by BAM.
This latest release comes from two singers who, since 2016, have been jointly exploring a range of vocal music styles performed a cappella, with the Mediterranean as their cultural and geographical reference point. They perform traditional songs and works by singer-songwriters, always with experimentation as their hallmark – combining vocal techniques and pushing the boundaries between the sacred and the profane.
Songs are generally not italicised.
Shows for all audiences.
