Disseny Hub Barcelona - Pl. de les Glòries Catalanes, 37

Author:
Maurici Ginés / Artec Studio

Designova is a light installation that conveys a sense of the future, of what is desired, of something new and alive, of positive energy in continuous motion over ourselves with chromatic changes.

Nova is what we call new stars when they are created by an astronomical event generated between two other stars; an event also known as a Supernova, when a brighter stellar explosion occurs. Designova aims to get its visitors to feel they are close to the creation of a star, to experience a timeless sensation, immersed in dynamic interstellar light.

Designova is a light installation suspended in the Disseny Hub Barcelona’s hall, built from cellular polycarbonate, dichroic filter, aluminium and LED lights, recyclable or re-usable materials. It is composed of 1 sequence of 9 elements separated from one another by 80 cm, each weighing roughly 30 kg, with the entire piece occupying a space measuring 4 x 4 x 8 metres.

Maurici Ginés is the founder and creative director of Artec Studio, an international studio with 25 years behind it, which uses light as the main element for designing architectural lighting and luminaria and creating art installations from its offices in Barcelona, Mexico City, Madrid and New York.

Its projects are based on the creation of new perceptions and well-being. Interactive sensory experiences, identities of light and works of light art which bring about interactions between individuals and collective ideas; exploring synergies between design, art and people, with light as the medium.
