Parc del Centre Poblenou - MUHBA Oliva Artés - Bac de Roda, 119

UPC, Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Master’s Degree in Lighting Design

The Poblenou neighbourhood is located near the mouth of the Besòs River, originally an area of marshes and wetlands that was transformed into an industrial zone in the 19th century. This deltaic area, filled with numerous lagoons and marshes, was gradually drained using ditches to create land suitable for livestock and crops. Nowadays, only the names of the streets in the neighbourhood remind us of what it once was: La Llacuna (The Lagoon), El Joncar (The Reed Bed), etc. The Desiderium installation is a tribute to the marshy origins of the neighbourhood, and an invitation to reflect on the effects of anthropisation and indiscriminate soil sealing, which have altered natural ecosystems. The project aims to highlight the need for sustainable coexistence between humans and land use. It is an atmospheric and multisensory installation that takes visitors back to a pre-18th century Poblenou.
