Mobility at the service of our lives. Getting about the city comfortably under any circumstance, during all life's stages, from any point and giving priority to the cleanest means of transport. With suitable infrastructures for every means of transport, ensuring an equal presence in public space for the most sustainable forms of transport. To achieve fair mobility in Barcelona, we are promoting routes for pedestrians and cyclists and reserving space for public transport. That will help us to counterbalance the excessive space allocated to private vehicles, which have traditionally undermined the right to mobility of more sustainable transport users.

That's how it is. Barcelona is moving towards a fairer distribution of available urban space, by promoting social uses of streets and making sustainable mobility a tool for human integration and cohesion. So you can move around the public space safely, sustainably and efficiently, in harmony with other sustainable means of transport. For a public space for people.

Fair mobility in Barcelona

Moving around on your own and with friends and family. Wherever you want to go. So nothing can stop you, Barcelona wants to ensure that mobility in the city caters for the daily needs of men and women, is non-discriminatory, accessible and efficient as regards connections, the means of transport used and journeys within the city at all stages of life.

Did you know that Barcelona has 191.2 km of bus lanes, 98 lines in service and over 1,000 buses? A bus network that is being completely adapted for people with reduced mobility. You can access these and other useful data on the City of Barcelona Statistics Year Book for 2018.

Expanding and improving the bus service is based on private-vehicle users moving over to public transport services. That helps to free up space on public roads, speed up bus journeys, prevent exhaust emissions from private vehicles getting into the atmosphere, and improve the quality of and harmony in public spaces.

Barcelona has a 200 km+ network of bike lanes that connects all the city’s neighbourhoods, enabling better relations with other public-road users – whether pedestrians or other wheeled-transport users – while also ensuring safe, sustainable and efficient travel.

Bicycles can also use 30 km/h streets and areas, and single-level, no-kerb streets. Using a bike as a regular means of transport allows you to:

  • Save time and money
  • Avoid exhaust emissions
  • Stay in shape
  • Travel more safely

Travel from Nou Barris to Sants in a jiffy. The (TMB and FGC) railway network lets you do that. With 10 lines, 169 stations and 217 trains, it will take you from one side of the city to the other, on a fume-free, efficient journey. A fast and safe means of transport within everyone’s reach.
