European Mobility Week 2025
Once again, Barcelona is participating in European Mobility Week with a wide range of activities that invite city residents to get a firsthand look at the services and infrastructure that make urban mobility possible.
European Mobility Week (EMW) 2025 is taking place from 16 to 22 September, and this year’s overarching theme of “Mobility for Everyone” calls for universal access to public transport, while the additional theme of “Mix and Move” encourages combining different modes of transport to promote sustainability and flexibility.
This year, the initiative emphasises the need to promote inclusive mobility by removing the physical, economic and social barriers that stand in the way of mobility. The theme complements the goal, encouraging users to combine public transport, bicycles, walking and other sustainable solutions.
There will be activities throughout the Week in all the city’s districts, and the weekend of 12 to 14 September will feature the traditional open days, with 18 different events and 2,707 spaces available, all organised in collaboration with the city’s main transport operators.
By participating in the Week, Barcelona hopes to:
- Raise public awareness about the benefits of a friendly, peaceful city.
- Highlight the need to reduce the use of private motor vehicles in order to achieve a less polluted city.
- Promote more sustainable modes of transport (walking, cycling and public transport).
Open Days at transport facilities and services
Following the success of recent years, Barcelona’s EMW programme is back to spotlight all the operators, services, activities and initiatives that contribute to improving mobility in the city and making it more innovative and sustainable.
On Friday 12th September and the weekend of 13th and 14th September, all citizens are invited to discover how the city's transport system works. This year’s edition offers more visits than ever thanks to the participation of Barcelona Metropolitan Transport (TMB), which is opening several facilities to the public to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the metro. Activities include a visit to the Mercat Nou electrical substation, the Santa Eulàlia workshop, the remains of the Urquinaona station stairs and the Metro Control Centre.
These open days feature guided tours of the facilities and services that are working for sustainable mobility, such as the TRAM depot, the Management Centre for the RENFE Rodalies commuter trains, the Bicing Operations Centre and the Guàrdia Urbana city police stables.
