Description of the activity

This activity proposes a tour of the sculpture collections of the Frederic Marès Museum. The guiding principle of the visit is to reflect on the influence that classical art - understood as the ancient art of Greece and Rome - has exerted over the centuries on other artistic styles or periods - from the Middle Ages to the 19th century - whether from a stylistic, typological or iconographic point of view. The visit is developed around a series of selected pieces, which will be complemented with images in order to exemplify concepts or contextualize some of the works discussed.

Methodology

Based on the observation of the exhibited pieces and other graphic supports, the participant is expected to be aware of the background and importance of the values ​​of classical art and to understand the need to know the cultural origins.
