MUHBA Fabra i Coats

fabr

The Fabra i Coats factory, which was built according to English industrial models, is a site of exceptional interest in terms of heritage. The recovery of the complex has served to preserve much of the built structure, which is now being adapted for use by organisations and cultural and educational projects.

The project initiated by MUHBA, which includes large rooms containing a power system, together with a series of other spaces, has been devised with the aim of creating an informational and display centre focusing on the city and work. The project aims to recover and restore the heritage of the old factory complex which includes archives recovered by the Museum and many objects from the remarkable collection donated to the city by the Association of Friends of Fabra i Coats.

A collection is being compiled using materials supplied by other companies to help show the evolution of the relation between the city and work over the course of time.

As a preview of future informational and content displays, MUHBA is organising – together with the Friends of Fabra i Coats and other institutions and bodies – a programme of periodic exhibitions inside the factory complex, in the Espai Josep Bota. Furthermore, a painstaking heritage restoration project is currently being carried out on the building's great boiler room.
