Barcelona is improving the quality of its main streets’ lighting, brightening up new roads and enabling hundreds of streets and squares to deck themselves out for Christmas.

Barcelona is launching a new design-lighting system this Christmas in Plaça de Catalunya, Gran Via and Carrer d’Aragó. There will be close to 400 lit-up street sections, thanks to collaboration with the city’s neighbourhood retailers.

Now that the city is set on reclaiming its status as a design city, Plaça Catalunya, Gran Via and Carrer Aragó will be lit up with new Christmas motifs at their the most innovative and local, designed by the Antoni Arola Studio.

And, what is more, Ronda Sant Pere will be having Christmas lights for the first time in many years and part of the city’s lit-up streets and squares, such as Via Laietana, Plaça Urquinaona and Carrer Balmes. The city’s 39 municipal markets will also be lit up again.

Hundreds of streets and squares can now be decked out thanks to Barcelona City Council’s collaboration with the city’s shops.
