Dust Pavilion

This activity is part of the public program of the exhibition Matter Matters. Designing with the World, at the Museu del Disseny-DHub, and marks the beginning of the open session series organized by the DUST PAVILION research group. The aim is to contribute to the collective reflection on low-emission architectural practices at a key moment for the continent's future, as the European Green Deal sets the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

The research group presents a session focused on the potential of local stone as a structural material for low-emission architecture, starting from a critical reading of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion. The session will feature presentations by architect Carles Oliver on 300 social housing units built with stone, and mining engineer Carles Moreno on the use of stone as a load-bearing wall in Catalonia. The session will conclude with a round table discussion with members of the Federació Catalana de la Pedra to address active quarries, production capacity, new construction criteria, and the future of low-emission social architecture using local stone in Catalonia.
