Screening of the documentary and discussion with the director Maria Mauti

The documentary Miralles, directed by Maria Mauti, unfolds like a novel, offering a poetic exploration of the worldview of Enric Miralles—one of the most influential Spanish architects on the contemporary international stage.

The narrative begins on the day of his death, at just 45 years old, from a brain tumour. He is buried in one of his most profound works: the Igualada Cemetery, an unfinished woodland-cemetery that reflects his vision of life and architecture. From this moment on, Miralles' life and work become inseparably intertwined.

The film moves in variations, echoing the creative method Miralles himself followed—an open-ended, intuitive process inspired by Giacometti, where the search matters more than the conclusion. It mirrors the complexity and brilliance of one of his most iconic projects: the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.

With freedom to drift between moments and memories, and suspended above her native Barcelona, the narrator—guided by a script from Sara Mesa—converses with a ghost. She searches for him, evokes him, walks through his spaces, and crosses the delicate threshold between life and death, weaving a deeply personal and reflective journey through his architectural legacy.

This event is part of the DocsBarcelona 2025 Festival programme and is held in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura.
