Music in the street is an integral part of Barcelona's cultural heritage and urban landscape. The presence of musicians in public spaces not only brings them to life but also, at certain moments, offers the chance to view them from a fresh perspective. As part of Architecture Weeks 2025, this activity aims to promote in unconventional spaces, supporting new musical proposals and highlighting environments of architectural and historical significance.
Typically, the music heard on the streets is easily recognisable, largely consisting of popular tunes. This is because, while the reasons for playing in public spaces vary, the most common motivation remains financial. Many musicians, who are also composers, often alternate their original works with familiar pieces or focus solely on well-known songs to connect more readily with their audience. In response, our proposal aims to break this pattern by creating a space where original creations, unique reinterpretations, and sound experiments that diverge from the usual repertoire can be heard.
For this reason, musicians who typically perform in Barcelona’s streets, in authorised venues, are invited to take their music to new locations and share their own compositions with the public in an experience that merges music, urban space, and discovery.
High-frequency tubular bells concert and introductory Chi Kung session, led by Guillem Oms and Isidora Urrutia.
