The architectural complex of Barcelona’s Royal Shipyards is made up of four civil Gothic-style buildings, constructed in different periods and used from the 13th to 18th centuries to build ships, especially galleys, the most widely used ship in the Mediterranean for centuries.

The construction of Barcelona’s Royal Shipyards gave a boost to both the country and the city, which saw spectacular development thanks to the increase in trade and associated economic activities.

The restoration of the building, which currently houses the Barcelona Maritime Museum, was completed in 2010 and returned it to its glory as an iconic city building with a key role in the history of Barcelona and Catalonia.
