The Institut building was designed in 1972 by the architects Josep Antoni Coderch i de Sentmenat and Manuel Valls i Vergés as a free-standing building in order to have sunlight in all classrooms, sacrificing part of the developable area. It consists of two basement floors, a ground floor and eight upper floors that come together in a clear prism-like shape, set back from the street. The distinctive façades feature numerous slender windows, without cantilevers or protruding elements, and the size of the solid areas is the same as the openings, forming a symmetrical pattern.
