Development of Bon Pastor

The transformation of this large urban grid known as the cases barates or cheap housing district of Bon Pastor consisted of creating macroblocks of new homes, extending green space, and improving connectivity and accessibility throughout the neighbourhood, shaping what will be the 21st century image of this historical district.

The overall process includes new road layouts and services, sustainable drainage systems using drainage beds and a pneumatic waste collection network, and the elimination of the difference in level between the district and the upper level of the Ronda Litoral slab, which acts as a boundary and barrier with the river Besòs.

The project foresees the construction of a central plaza, new spaces with children’s play equipment, board games and a picnic area. It will have new landscaping, LED lights and new street furniture (chairs, benches, bins, bollards, bicycle parking and fountains).

Two types of pavement are also proposed: one that continues the existing development and another like that of the inside of the street block, which includes non-slip, polished concrete surfaces.

The layout of the new mobility system includes two hierarchies of streets: one for traffic around the perimeter of the sector to organize it, and one with inverted priority, allowing internal circulation for local residents. The resulting space will be more accessible, with adapted itineraries on all north-south and east-west streets. The routes will have a less than 6% slope.
