Umbral reflects on the phenomenon of migration as a characteristic of any contemporary or future society. It looks at its different realities through the gaze of ten artists and three group projects located in the metro. It emphasises the need to create structures for thinking about and integrating the flow of people that have to leave their homes and emigrate to other latitudes. A decision which, in some cases, is a matter of survival. We offer a place for reflection and for understanding the inequality suffered by millions of people. Umbral aims to inform the general public about a shared problem, and encourage them to assume their responsibility, whatever their origins, culture, age or gender.

SCREENINGS OF THE SHORT-FILM DOCUMENTARY DIOM
Several civic centres in Barcelona are to play host to a series of screenings of the short documentary “DIOM”, an audiovisual from the Quepo production company following practically two years of monitoring at the Diomcoop cooperative, as part of the Umbral project.
Dates: from 18/01/2019 to 09/04/2019
Synopsis: Diom is a Wolof word meaning understanding, courage and inner strength. It is diom that hundreds of people get up and defend their dignity with every morning, in a legal migratory context that excludes them from the society they live in. A group of street hawkers in Barcelona embark on launching a legal itinerant trade promoted by the City Council. The cooperative will try to offer decent work and legal documents to people in the city whose papers are not in order.
