Art historian, Josep Maria Trullén, is the new director of the Museum

The choice of director was made through an internal process targeted at the civil servants in any branch of the public administration. The jury in charge of choosing the new director included Rosa Pera Roca and Daniel Giralt-Miracle on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Barcelona Culture Council, and Josep Lluís Alay, Isabel Balliu, Margarita Tossas and Pilar Vélez on behalf of the Barcelona Institute of Culture.

Previously the director of the Art Museum of Girona, Josep Maria Trullén i Thomas (Barcelona, 1954) is an art historian at the University of Barcelona. During his extensive career, he has worked in numerous museums around Catalan charged with drawing up, supervising and executing four museological and museographic plans with the goal of modernising these facilities. Between 1983 and 1985 he was the technical director of the Museu dera Val d'Aran, and between 1983 and 1993 he served as the technical director of the Diocesan Museum of Solsona. In 1994 he became the director of the Víctor Balaguer Library Museum in Vilanova i la Geltrú, and in 2000 he began to work as the chief conservator of the Episcopal Museum of Vic. From September 2007 until now he has been the director of the Girona Art Museum. He has also been a member of the Executive Commission of the Board of Museums of Catalonia for 18 years (1993-2001).
