Octopus in the Parc de La Pegaso

The remodelling of the children’s playground in Parc de La Pegaso is the result of a participation process involving nearly 200 fifth and sixth year primary school pupils at the Congrés-Indians, Pegaso and Turó Blau centres, listening to their needs and viewpoints. This is a new way of creating play areas by means of collaborative networking that contributes to the development and well-being of children and adolescents in public space.

The main protagonist of the space is a structure in the form of a giant octopus made of play equipment. Slides, nets, rope ladders and tunnels offer a combination that aims to stimulate children’s imagination. To reinforce the creation of an underwater world, the octopus is surrounded by other play equipment such as swings, tilting platforms and climbing frames, decorated with motifs reminiscent of the marine world.

The eye-catching new playground in Parc de La Pegaso is part of the city’s pioneering Plan for Play in Public Space, designed to build a more child-friendly city that encourages well-being, learning, creativity and neighbourhood life in a greener, traffic-calmed environment that promotes community living and coexistence.
