‘The return of the gaze: The political task of narration’ by Paloma Polo

La Virreina Centre de la Imatge

From 18/10/2025 to 01/03/2026

Counternarrative. The exhibition features a dozen projects created by Paloma Polo between 2010 and the present day, including the première of her previously unseen film ‘Wrinkled Minds’.

Under the title The return of the gaze: The political task of narration, La Virreina Centre de la Imatge inaugurates a first retrospective in the city devoted to Paloma Polo (Madrid, 1983), an artist whose creations highlight the political character involved in the act of narrating or explaining something.

Through photographs, collages films and other formats organised into four main areas, Polo’s art delves into silenced historical narratives, questioning colonial and patriarchal hegemonies and promoting a reflection on how collective memory has been constructed.

Her images work as “mirages of truth”, inviting us to rediscover the stories we have not been told.
