Barcelona’s public spaces become stages to fill the city with music. The Sons de Ciutat cycle brings live outdoor music to the city’s ten districts for free. A special Christmas edition under the name of Sons de Nadal is now under way, with over fifty performances in various genres around the whole city up until 4 January.

Some top artists will be celebrating Christmas in the open air in an experience bringing live music to the neighbourhoods and offering concerts in a variety of styles: from jazz, rumba and urban music to folk, pop, opera and classical music.

Classical projects, opera (with works such as Il barbiere di Siviglia and Les Noces de Figaro) and contemporary sounds, including some well-known artists such as Marta Garrett and Las Bajas Pasiones, can be heard in squares, gardens, markets and many other spaces in the city. You’ll hear Rumba Heritage, Ikram Essaghir, Ani in the Hall and Venus Voice, as well as many other performers providing music for your Christmas and coming to find you in your neighbourhood.

In addition, thanks to the Christmas carol Un cor que batega, composed by Esteban Navarro i Irieix, you’ll find choirs of young voices, children’s and young people’s choirs coordinated by the Secretariat for Children’s Choirs in Catalonia. They’ll be singing the carol, as well as other traditional songs from this time of year.

The artists and music formations have been chosen by fourteen agents with strong links to music in Barcelona: from Terrats en Cultura, Say it Loud, Jazz I AM, L’Hora del Jazz and the Plataforma per la Rumba to Casa de la Música, Fabra i Coats, Festival B, the Conservatori del Liceu, the ESEM del Taller de Músics, the ESMUC, Jam Session, the Fundació Victòria dels Àngels and the Fundació Òpera Catalunya.
