Recreation, digital content and commerce as the main spheres of action in promoting the social use of Catalan
The creation of the Office for Catalan has also been announced, with its various functions to include managing the new Catalan Mailbox to channel queries, complaints and linguistic denouncements.
One of the main proposals to be promoted by the Office for Catalan is an agreement with the Institut d’Estudis Catalans to increase the use of Catalan among children and young people through recreational activities and complementary education.
Work is currently in progress to set up the Barcelona Centre for the Creation of Digital Content in Catalan, which is expected to have a definitive home in 2027. The Barcelona Language Council is also taking shape as a stable coordination space between the City Council, the Linguistic Normalisation Consortium and organisations and individuals committed to the promotion of Catalan and jointly tackling local language challenges.
In terms of the use of Catalan in commerce and restaurants, work is being conducted jointly with the Directorate for Inspections to ensure that linguistic regulations in this sector are respected.
