Green light for the definitive transformation of part of the streets of Comte Borrell and Parlament
The Government Commission has approved the definitive transformation of the section of C/ Comte Borrell between C/ Manso and Av. Paral·lel, as well as part of C/ Parlament between Rda. Sant Pau and C/ Viladomat, in the neighbourhood of Sant Antoni. The project also includes the large square at the junction between these two streets and brings an end to the provisional arrangements in this area, consolidating street-calming with curbless paving, more greenery and a clear distribution of uses.
The definitive street-calming in this part of Sant Antoni includes a surface of some 13,500 square metres and will use curbless paving, doing away with barriers between pavements and road surfaces. The revamp builds on the learning from other recent street-calming projects to consolidate good results. The streets will therefore have more greenery, more trees, recreational zones and new furniture, particularly in the square between the two streets, consolidating a large central space where local people can spend time.
Large parterres will also be present but limited to the corners of the new square to ensure optimum sunlight and maintenance, ensuring the greenery survives. The paving will use the panot design in pedestrian-only areas, while areas where vehicles can circulate will be use granite. Clearly defined spaces will also be created for urban goods distribution (DUM).
The transformation work starts in the second quarter of 2026 and will last roughly a year.
