Extra municipal services for New Year's Eve
The City Police will be rolling out a special operation al around the city to ensure safety, coexistence and rest. Access and crowd capacity controls will be set up in Av. Reina Maria Cristina, the focal point of the 2026 New Year celebrations, along with measures to prevent sexual violence and conduct breathalyser and drug tests. Additional staff will be assigned to cleaning services and the metro will be operational all night.
The City Police, in collaboration with the Mossos d’Esquadra, will ensure local people’s hours of rest and check for illegal activities in public spaces. As part of the Christmas Operation, public venues have been inspected to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Joint Operation in Av. Reina Maria Cristina
Barcelona bids farewell to 2025 and welcomes 2026 with a music and firework display in Av. Reina Maria Cristina. A joint police operation will be focusing on preventing criminal acts and maintaining public order. The operation will also include community-oriented tasks, public support and the general surveillance of public spaces.
There will be an access operation for the central section of the avenue, between the two Venetian Towers, to prevent potentially dangerous objects from entering. Public access via Av. Rius i Taulet and Av. Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia will be prohibited. Drone services will be deployed to support these measures. Check the traffic disruptions.
Accident prevention and measures against gender-based violence
Once again, safe routes will be set up in nightlife areas and around Av. Reina Maria Cristina. Specific City Police patrols will offer this service in order to identify and address behaviour linked to gender-based violence.
In addition, Barcelona’s police force will be boosting road safety with breathalyser and drug tests at various locations around the city to prevent accidents.
Metro all night
The metro will be running non-stop from 5 am Wednesday, 31 December, until midnight on Thursday, 1 January. Due to event preparations, some TMB bus routes around Pl. Espanya will be diverted or shortened.
To get to Av. Reina Maria Cristina, TMB recommends using the metro as the best means of public transport. Additional staff will be deployed to manage passenger flows at nearby stations.
Extra cleaning services will be laid on with 121 additional workers and 55 extra vehicles on New Year’s Eve.
