Four non-smoking beaches

In a move to protect people’s health and the environment, this year sees a no-smoking policy in place at four city beaches during bathing hours. Smoking will not be allowed at:

  • Sant Miquel
  • Somorrostro
  • Nova Icària
  • Nova Mar Bella

Return of the dog beach

A section at one end of the Llevant beach will again be open to dogs, with furniture adapted for animals, checks on ID chips and thorough cleaning three times a day. The capacity at the dog beach is for 141 people and 60 dogs, to ensure compliance with health measures.

Accessible beaches

The service comes into operation on 12 June, from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm at:

  • Nova Icària
  • Sant Miquel
  • Bathing area at the Fòrum

Bookings are required. These can be made by phone or online at barcelona.cat/ca/que-pots-fer-a-bcn/banys-i-platges/accessibilitat.

There will also be an inclusive changing room at the Nova Icària beach this year, offering a clean and safe environment, with plenty of space and appropriate equipment to assist people with needs in hygiene.

More safety

Lifeguard and rescue services will be operating longer hours, from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm, with 21 new watchtowers on the sand offering greater safety and comfort for the 80 professionals to be able to provide better service.

Covid-19 prevention measures

Prevention measures for Covid-19 must also be maintained at the beach: maximum of 10 people per group, 1.5 metres between groups and capacity limited.

You can check how busy each beach is in real time at barcelona.cat/platges, and to ensure compliance with measures and restrictions, more information staff will be on hand and available for longer hours, from 10 am to 8 pm. This team will also provide information on services and environmental messages at all beaches.

Cleaning and waste

Much of the waste generated at the beaches is not biodegradable and poses a risk to flora and fauna. This summer, all beach bars will be offering reusable cups to help achieve zero waste at the beaches and look after nature.

The cleaning service will be working on the sand to look after the environment with 20 working teams, 32 operators and 20 vehicles. At sea, the service will be clearing floating waste along the coast, the three boats in operation daily.
