Rough sea and gale alerts activated

Given the weather forecast, the alert stage of the municipal basic emergency plan for rough sea was activated as of Monday, 6 February, along with the plan for gales, during the afternoon of Tuesday, 7 February. People are advised to keep clear of cornices, walls and trees which may fall and to exercise extra caution in front of buildings under construction or in poor repair. At the same time, people are asked to stay away from the beaches. Access to the groynes at the beach and bathing are prohibited while the red flag is in place, currently the case at all city beaches.

Rough sea

The City Police are on duty at the beaches, preventing people from accessing the groynes and the areas where waves break, to avoid anyone being at risk.

The rough sea warning is activated when there is a high probability of waves in excess of 2.5 metres and the coastline suffers the effects and becomes dangerous for people, and where urban furniture may be damaged.

Gales

Given the forecast of strong winds in the city, Civil Protection advises people to make sure windows are properly closed, to lower blinds and awnings, remove plant pots and other objects which could fall from windowsills and balconies causing accidents and check fixed elements (antennas, air-conditioning units, skylights etc.).

Outdoors, people should be wary of parked vehicles as the wind can blow motorcycles or elements of urban furniture over. It’s a good idea to keep clear of cornices, walls and trees which may fall and to exercise extra caution in front of buildings under construction or in poor repair.
