La Mercè 2025: special security, cleaning and mobility operation
Additional municipal services are being laid on to ensure social harmony as the city celebrates the festivities for La Mercè from 23 to 28 September. Extra cleaning teams will be on duty, with safe routes also established to prevent and detect sexist and LGBTI-phobic violence. People are advised to use public transport. The metro system is set to provide extra service, providing trains throughout the night on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
The City Police, in conjunction with the Barcelona Fire Service, the Mossos d’Esquadra police corps, Protection Civil and the Port Police, will be coordinating various measures to ensure safety, coexistence and fluid mobility during La Mercè:
- Organising and regulating traffic.
- Management and control of anti-social behaviour.
- Breathalyser and drug tests.
- Checks on capacity at access points to Plaça Sant Jaume to avoid risks posed by dense crowds.
- Prevention and assistance relating to gender violence, LGBTI-phobia and sexual violence.
The drone service will be activated for the city’s local festival, providing a means of support and information for the security operation. Images from the drones will always be viewed in real time, with no recordings taken under any circumstances.
As part of its ‘Operation Iron’, the City Police will be stepping up action to detect and confiscate knives and other dangerous objects in public spaces.
Prevention and support against sexist violence and LGBTI-phobia
Safe routes are being set up and come in addition to those already established by the city’s police corps in different nightlife areas, enabling people to reach the nearest public transport stops. BCNantimasclista purple points will also be open at night in the following locations:
- Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina. Friday 26 and Saturday 27, from 7 pm to when the concerts end.
- Bogatell beach. Friday 26 and Saturday 27 from 7 pm to when the concerts end.
- Fire run. In C/ Provença, between Passeig de Gràcia adn Rambla de Catalunya, Saturday 27, from 7 pm until midnight.
- Marina metro station (L1). Friday, Sunday and Monday, from 10 pm to 2 am, and Saturday, from 11.30 pm to 3.30 am.
Extra cleaning with more staff and vehicles
The special cleaning operation will be stepped up by 1,271 workers, in 557 teams, at nights and in the areas where activities are being organised during the festivities. A total of 1,365 selective waste bins will also be temporarily distributed.
Metro service throughout the night on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday
Metro services will be operating non-stop throughout the night on Tuesday 23, Friday 26 and Saturday 27 September, with more trains and staff.
Extra services for events
To get to the Espigó del Gas and enjoy the International Firework festival (Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24) and the drone show (Friday 26 September, people are advised to use the metro as far as Barceloneta (L4), or TMB buses D20, H16, V21, V23, V25, V27, 6, 47 and 59. The concert planned at the Bogatell beach can be reached by bus using the H16, V23, V25, V27, V29, 6 and 59, and the nearest metro stations are Llacuna and Poblenou on Line 4.
The concerts in Av. Reina Maria Cristina can be reached by metro (Espanya, L1 and L3) and by bus, using the D20, D40, H12, H16, V7, X2, X3, 13, 46, 52, 55, 65, 109 and 150.
Bus services that pass through Passeig de Gràcia and the route between Carrer Pelai and Plaça Sant Jaume may be affected, respectively, by the fire run on Saturday, 27, and the procession on Wednesday, 24.
TMB will be displaying six historical buses at the Parc del Fòrum over the weekend of 27 and 28 September.
