Barcelona chosen to take part in a new international cluster on housing
The city has been chosen to take part in the EU Cities Gateway project for the next three years, allowing Barcelona City Council to share experiences in affordable housing and innovative living spaces together with the cities of Toronto, Laval, Atlanta, Parma and Tampere.
The programme is organised into four meetings to explore solutions to the main problems that cities face on housing. The first meeting was held in Toronto from 10 to 12 December as part of the Strong Cities Network Sixth Global Summit, bringing together over 200 representatives from around the world.
In a similar vein, the Commissioner Mar Jiménez will be taking part in the Institutional Innovation in Cities event on 8 and 9 January, held at the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University.
The Commissioner will be explaining how Barcelona’s alliance with other cities has enabled it to introduce the need to combat speculation, the regulation of temporary lets and the concept of stressed market areas into the European Housing Plan that the European Commission presented on 16 December.
