End of the beach season with a more efficient bathing support service
The assisted bathing service provided help on 48,563 occasions, an increase of 88.88% compared to last year, with more points and new installations. The number of visitors to the beaches also increased by 18.8% compared to last season, with 5.3 million visitors enjoying the Barcelona coast between 12 April and 5 October.
Assisted bathing service
The 2025 season concluded with the consolidation of a closer, more extensive, accessible and efficient assisted bathing service. The change in the support service was one of the main new aspects this summer, with a new service point at the Bogatell beach, helping to distribute users better and cut waiting times.
In addition, coinciding with the opening of a new accessible changing room at Barceloneta, the beach replaced the Sant Miquel beach as an assisted bathing point, contributing to user autonomy and comfort.
In all, the assisted bathing service was used on 48,563 occasions this season, attending to a total of 11,920 people, 75% of them accessing the service individually and 25% in organised groups. Users gave the assisted bathing service a rating of 4.71 out of 5, for both the teams of professionals and the materials used.
Over five million visitors
The high temperatures at the start of the summer increased the number of beach users considerably in June, although the busiest months continue to be August (1.43 million), June (1.37 million) and July (1.27 million), accounting for 76% of users for the entire season. The most visited beaches were Bogatell, Sant Sebastià and Sant Miquel.
Nearly 70.000 people played sport at the beaches during he season: 81% did so on the sand and 10% in the water. Users gave the regulatory conditions a rating of 7.84 out of 10.
Purple points on the coast
Purple points promote awareness and provide information, immediate support and the activation of necessary resources in cases of gender violence and LGBTI-phobia. There was a daytime service and two night points this summer at the Somorrostro and Bogatell beaches. The expansion of the night service provided service at night at the weekends and the eves of public holidays from Sant Joan to La Mercè.
In all, the points had contact with 9,987 people, 9,838 of them relating to awareness actions, 12 for advice and 140 in various other situations requiring the activation of resources to attend to those affected.
As for the daytime purple point service, 71% of people receiving information were women, mainly between the ages of 25 and 50. Users gave the service a rating of 9.15 out of 10.
The night service at the seafront was bolstered this year, increasing the one point to two and the 7 professionals to 14. Owing to its location in a busty nightlife spot, the point at the Somorrostro accounted for 58% awareness work and 82% of interventions.
Dog beach
Located at the dog Llevant beach, the dog space welcomed 12,791 dogs and 23,241 users this year, who gave it a rating of 8.15 out of 10. Some 77% of users were Barcelona residents, mainly from the districts of Sant Martí and Sant Andreu, and 23% visited the beach from outside the city. Days were set aside in June, July and August for guide dogs this year. Forty of these and their owners and volunteers took part at this reserved space.
