Rollout of the GETHub network to move towards gender equity in tech companies

Promoted by the City Council and coordinated by the leading tech school by and for women, allWomen.tech, the Gender Equality Tech Hub (GETHub) is a public-private initiative which aims to bring together Barcelona companies which are committed to gender equity in the tech sphere. The goal is to drive specific measures to reduce the digital divide in this sector.

Developed within the framework of the BCN Fem Tech public-private agreement, the idea is to achieve more organisations with more women in technical and leadership posts, in environments which truly ensure gender equity. Participation in the GETHub means taking part in a working group of businesses and associations working towards equality.

Women currently only account for 29% of workers in the digital sector in the city, with ICT women specialists representing 19.5% of people in this sector on average. To change these percentages, the GETHub is open to any company based in the Barcelona metropolitan area, of any size and with a true commitment to gender equity, willing to work internally to reduce the gender divide.

Through participation in this platform, the idea is to further explore aspects such as self-diagnostics, the detection and eradication of gender bias, masculinities, honesty and transparency, women’s leadership, women’s mentoring for women, bring parents back, inclusive marketing, positive action policies, protocols to tackle gender violence, recruitment of inclusive talent, procurement, women-first training, investment in projects with a social impact, inclusive offices and work-life balance policies.

Participation in the project will enable businesses to network, in conjunction with the City Council, allWomen.tech and other members of the GETHub, as well as to access resources and specialist support. Participating companies in the network so far include the likes of Allianz, Pepsico (Digital Hub), Holaluz, Iterem and Cyberclick.

The first working session is planned in March and will enable participating companies and organisations to connect, share areas they wish to address and explore possible types of action. A public presentation will be given in June, outlining the work being done by businesses and their members.
