Public works kept at a standstill in the city

The 72 public works projects which the City Council currently has under way have not been resumed, despite the Spanish state having decreed a return to work for non-essential on-site jobs from 13 April. Around 85% of private works also remain at a halt as they must guarantee there will be no contact between workers and local residents.

As of Tuesday 14 April, the suspension of on-site jobs deemed non-essential has been lifted. Even so, the 72 public works projects which the City Council currently has under way have been kept at a standstill.

The only projects where work continues are the repairs to the sea wall at the Port Fòrum, damaged in Storm Gloria and still representing a risk for the infrastructure in the case of other storms, and the pumping of groundwater in Plaça de les Glòries, to prevent flooding in the road tunnels currently under construction.

Private works with safety measures

Private works can only resume with guarantees that there will be no contact between workers and residents. An estimated 85% of the current 13,000 private works projects will remain at a halt. The City Council will be monitoring the situation strictly and is ready to resolve any queries that companies might have.
