Public transport is to be cheaper from 1 September on

The main integrated public-transport cards that are purchased between 1 September and 31 December will be at reduced prices. The monthly and quarterly travel passes, such as the T-usual and the T-jove cards, will be half-price, and the T-casual card, for occasional users, at a 30% discount. This reduction in fares will be in addition to the free journeys available to passengers on rodalies and regional train services. The integrated travel cards that do not vary in price are the T-familiar, the T-grup and the T-dia.

FAQs on the use of public transport in the city this autumn, during which there will be reduced prices for the main travel cards and free travel on rodalies [local commuter] and regional train services.

Which tickets will be half-price?

All monthly and quarterly travel cards will see a 50% reduction in prices: the T-usual and the T-jove (in all their categories), the T-FM/FN 70/90 and the T4. The single-zone T-usual will cost 20 euros and the single-zone T-jove 40 euros for the quarter. Check out the prices per zone in detail.

Will the T-casual be cheaper as well?

Yes, the integrated travel card for occasional travellers will see a 30% reduction in its price. A single-zone T-casual will therefore coast 7,95 euros.

Do I need to go through any procedures to obtain these reduced-price travel cards?

No, the discounts will automatically apply as soon as travel cards are purchased through the usual systems.

Which integrated travel cards do not vary in price?

The integrated travel cards that do not vary in price are the T-familiar, the T-grup and the T-dia.

I have a T-mobilitat pass, will these new fares apply to it?

Yes, the fares will apply to both magnetic-strip tickets and T-mobilitat technology cards.

I have already purchased a card without reduced fares. Can I exchange it and recoup the difference in price from 1 September on?

If you can, we recommend you opt for a T-casual during the last days of August and wait until 1 September before you purchase your monthly or quarterly pass. Cards purchased before 1 September cannot be exchanged during the fare-reduction period for reduced-price cards and differences in price cannot be recouped. If you have already started using it, you can continue travelling with your card throughout the fare-reduction period. If you have not validated it even once, you will be able to exchange it between 1 January and 31 March 2023, paying any difference in price there may be.

How long will the cards I purchased at a reduced price remain valid for?

It is not advisable to accumulate travel cards with reduced prices for use after 15 January 2023: they will expire and you will need to pay the difference in price to exchange them.
All travel cards purchased in 2022 will remain valid until 15 January 2023, except for the T-16 and the T-verda, which have their own expiry dates, and any travel cards that expire earlier, according to the date they are first validated on.

Travel cards purchased in 2022 and which have started being used can be exchanged for corresponding travel cards in 2023 between 1 January and 31 March 2023. Where the travel cards in 2023 cost more than the ones purchased in 2022, their use will have to pay the difference in price. If they cost is the same or less, they will not be entitled to any compensation.

How can I obtain a free travel pass for frequent Renfe travellers?

You will be able to obtain a new four-monthly travel pass, for free, for frequent travellers of the rodalies [local-commuter] and regional train services. It will allow you to make an unlimited number of journeys on Rodalies trains with a 10-euro deposit, which will be returned to users who make at least 16 journeys. You will find further information here.

Are the free Renfe travel passes are valid on Barcelona’s public transport network?

The new free Renfe travel pass is not an integrated travel card and is therefore only valid for rodalies and regional service trains. Under no circumstances can you change your means of transport and use the metro or bus service with it.

If I come from outside Barcelona, what’s the best way to benefit from it?

Anyone coming to Barcelona by train is advised to obtain the free Renfe travel pass. And once they’re in the city, they can opt to travel on foot or by bicycle or to purchase a single-zone travel card: the T-casual if they make occasional journeys and the T-usual if they are regular travellers.

Anyone coming to the city by intercity bus, tram or FGC railway line, however, is best advised to purchase the integrated travel cards with reduced fares, which they will be able to use on the entire public transport network, including the metro and urban-bus network.
