EstarB, the new mental health support service for teenagers and young people

The support for mental health among teenagers and young people in Barcelona has a name: EstarB. The new service comes from the integration of the 'Aquí t'escoltem' and 'Konsulta'm' services to facilitate access to emotional support through a single-entry point, extending its coverage with more hours of individual and group support for people between the ages of 12 and 25.

EstarB will combine prevention, detection and early intervention in emotional distress issues and mental health. It will also offer individual and group attention, depending on the needs of teenagers and young people and their families, the aim being to give them resources and strategies for constructively tackling various situations.

More support and resources

The new service comes with a significant increase in hours of support and resources. While the previous services offered 213 hours of individual support a week, EstarB will offer up to 304 hours to improve the quality of the support provided and broaden the reach of psychological and educational assistance for young people. The new service also unifies the 21 current support points for young people without an appointment, around all districts, and the possibility of opening up new ones will be studied where specific needs are identified.

The EstarB  team will be made up of 12 social education professionals and 12 psychologists. This will boost social and educational support and psycho-emotional support. Each district will also have two professional profiles from the Child and Juvenile Mental Health Centre-CSMIJ.

Finally, from January 2026, the service will include the participation of Community Emotional Welfare figures (RBECs) from primary healthcare centres, acting as a bridge with the healthcare system in cases where this is needed.
