First stone to enlarge Fira de Barcelona
The Fira de Barcelona Gran Via site is getting a new hall which will boost is exhibition floor space by 25%. The first stone for the building was laid today and the finished building will have 60,000 square metres of floor space. Construction work should be completed in the third quarter of 2026 and forms part of the organisation’s infrastructures plan, entailing an overall investment of 498 million euros.
The future building is named Hall Zero and will have two floors for fairs and exhibitions, with a tower annex mainly for offices owned by the Government of Catalonia, plus spaces which can be used for supporting the economic activities linked to activity at the trade fair site. The hall and the tower will connect with the current site via an elevated walkway leading on from the one that connects with the rest of the spaces on the site.
Besides exhibition areas, Hall Zero will have a centre for congresses and spacse with meeting rooms linked to trade fair activity. The future facilities stand out for their practicality, tech solutions and sustainable construction criteria. The new building should be ready at the end of 2026.
Investment plan of 498 million euros
The plan for the trade fair infrastructures has a budget of 498 million euros: 323 million for the enlargement to the Gran Via trade fair site and the rest for the renovation of the complex in Montjuïc, due for completion in 2029, coinciding with the centenary of the International Expo of 1929.
The shareholders for Fira 2000, the company promoting the projects, are: the Government of Catalonia, the councils of Barcelona and L’Hospitalet, Barcelona Metropolitan Area, Barcelona Provincial Council and Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, along with Fira de Barcelona itself.
