The new members of the corps swell the ranks of the City Police to 3,400 officers, 17.6% of them women, the highest percentage to date.

Boosting women’s presence in the City Police has been a priority in recent years, to safeguard the principles of equality, merit and ability in access to public service jobs as the most efficient tool for balancing the presence of men and women.

Out of the 132 officers in this new intake, 64% are men (84 officers) and 36% are women (48). In terms of age, 54.5% are between 26 and 35, while 35.1% are between 36 and 45.

Most of the new officers will now start practical placements with different territorial units of the city’s police corps, alongside other officers with more experience. The rest (19) are already operative.

Improvement to service

After completing a year in service, the new officers will be named as members of the City Police corps, as public service professionals. The increase in officers is intended to improve the service offered to the public, as officers will carry out tasks at a local level in the streets to strengthen support and contact with members of the public.

Over 2,000 new places have been announced with the City Police since 2019: 293 places in 2019, 282 in 2020, 259 in 2021 and 241 in 2022, plus the current recruitment process.
