More information

Participants must present a single A1 panel, horizontal format, that contains all the information necessary to understand the proposal put forward:

  • Graphical documentation: photos, site plans, plans, sections, elevations,...
  • Intervention strategy: schemes, diagrams, references.
  • Written explanation, with a maximum of 500 words.
  • The way in which the participants want to express the proposal is free, so any form of graphic expression that makes it possible to understand the proposal will be accepted. 

Visuals that do not use the photos given are accepted. In any case, the proposal must be able to be printed, and therefore the incorporation of videos, QR, external links or other similar types will not be accepted. In case there are proposals that incorporate them, this information will be excluded from evaluation, and if they infringe the principle of anonymity they will be disqualified.

Features of the panel:

  • Dimensions: A1 horizontal (841 mm × 594 mm / 23.39 in × 33.11 in) and max. 50Mb
  • Digital PDF format without metadata
  • Identifying MOTTO visible at the top right of the panel
  • It is recommended to add scales (graphical or numerical)
  • No other delivery formats will be accepted.

Participation in the competition entails the free assignment to the Fundació Mies van der Rohe - Barcelona City Council of the publication rights for the proposals submitted to the competition in a non-exclusive and indefinite manner and for all countries of the world, with the aim to
disseminate and promote them by any means and form in all events and activities related to the competition and the Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture UNESCO-UIA (exhibitions, publications, webpages, social networks,…)
The Organisers and the International Union of Architects (UIA) have the right to use, store, reproduce, display, print, publish, communicate to the public or distribute in hard copies, in electronic or digital format, or on the internet (including social networks as a downloadable or non-downloadable file), the submitted project or copies of the submitted project for the purpose of communicating or informing about the Competition results and the project without the Authors’ consent. The names of the Authors will always be mentioned.

No delivery is accepted that is not in digital format and through the established channels. Models, panels, or any other material that is delivered through other means will not be accepted or considered by the competition Jury. The material will not be returned either.

Jury members may not delegate their attendance.

Priority will be given to the amicable and mutually agreed resolution of any discrepancy or claim that may arise in relation to the interpretation and execution of these terms and conditions. A mechanism has been enabled for this purpose on the websitehttps://www.barcelona.cat/capitalmundialarquitectura


In the event that a friendly and mutually agreed resolution is not possible, the participants, with express waiver of any court or jurisdiction that may correspond to them, submit to the jurisdiction and competence of the courts of the city of Barcelona.

The intellectual property and Author’s rights for the proposal submitted to the competition will always belong to the Author/s that created it. Participant(s) must guarantee that they are the Author(s) of the proposed idea and that their proposal does not infringe intellectual property rights of third parties.

Participation in the contest requires the collection and processing of participant data. Personal data will be processed for the purpose of managing the contest, in accordance with the legislation on the protection of personal data. The person responsible for the processing is the Business Public Entity Fundació Mies van der Rohe.

The data of the winners and those mentioned by the Jury will be disseminated on the websites https://www.barcelona.cat/capitalmundialarquitectura/ and www.uia-architectes.org, on social networks and other public media to inform of the winners and those mentioned of the competition.

Fundació Mies van der Rohe will transfer the data of the winners positioned in first place to the Municipal Institute of Urban Landscape and Quality of Life - Barcelona City Council in case of implementation of the winning proposals in the frame of the World Capital of Architecture, under the terms of section 9 of these clauses, for which reason a contract of processing manager will be signed between both institutions for the purposes of article 28 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of European Parliament and Council of April 27, 2016. Participants will be able to exercise their rights of access, rectification, cancellation, deletion, opposition, limitation and portability through written communication addressed to the Public Business Entity Fundació Mies van der Rohe, c/ Provença 318, Pral 2, 08037 Barcelona and through the mail lopd@miesbcn.com, providing a photocopy of their identity document and identifying the right that.

 

Q&A

Contestants will be able to ask questions anonymously through this link. The answers to all questions will be published in a single document on the dates established in the calendar.

The organiser of the competition reserves the right to answer similar inquiries together. During the Q&A period, the contest organisers will be able to post any inquiries and follow-up questions they deem appropriate in the website section designated for this purpose.

The formulation of the question will be anonymous and will not contain data that allows the identification of the applicant. Questions that do not meet these requirements will not be accepted, published or answered.
