Award‑Winning Architecture: 125 Years of Architecture Prizes
The FAD Architecture and Interior Design Awards, created in 1958, are the longest‑running architecture prizes in Europe and a benchmark for the country’s architectural culture.
Over 67 uninterrupted editions, independent juries have recognised works that have helped transform the environment, the city and the landscape. The awards began by distinguishing works built in the city of Barcelona, a scope that later expanded to the metropolitan area (1978), to the whole of Catalonia (1987) and, finally, to the Iberian Peninsula (since 1996).
To mark Barcelona 2026, World Capital of Architecture, ARQUIN‑FAD will present a retrospective exhibition that showcases the 67 editions of the FAD Awards and their predecessors, the Barcelona City Architecture and Urban Planning Awards, granted by the City Council since the late nineteenth century.
The exhibition will take place from June to September 2026 at the Oliva Artés museum space, a former factory refurbished in the Poblenou neighbourhood, with an approximate area of 400 m².
The show is produced by ARQUIN‑FAD with the support of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation and Barcelona City Council, and is curated by the architects Pau de Solà‑Morales and Ignasi Bonet.
The exhibition will present a global view of the FAD Awards, with photographs, documents and audiovisuals illustrating their evolution over the years. In parallel, the catalogue will include the most relevant works on display, complemented by texts from experts offering historical context and critical analysis.
With this initiative, ARQUIN‑FAD reaffirms the role of the FAD Awards as a mirror of contemporary architecture and as a tool for understanding the evolution of Barcelona and the country. The exhibition will be not only a tribute to history but also an invitation to imagine the future of architecture and of cities.
Opening: June 2026
