Catalunya Open Wood: a Journey through the Country’s Most Innovative Timber Architecture
As part of Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture and the CONSTRUMAT trade fair, Catalunya Open Wood is a series of guided visits to exemplary timber‑built buildings across Catalonia.
The initiative seeks to highlight a sustainable, innovative material with great potential for the future of the construction sector.
Throughout 2026, professionals and the general public will have the chance to discover some of the most emblematic timber‑architecture projects up close, accompanied by their authors and technical leads. It will be a unique opportunity to learn about construction details, technical challenges and creative processes, guided by architects, engineers and builders who have made Catalonia a reference in this field.
Timber construction has consolidated itself as one of the most effective responses to today’s environmental challenges. It is a renewable material with a low carbon footprint, great versatility and high technical performance. Catalunya Open Wood aims to demonstrate that it is possible to make sustainable, healthy buildings of high architectural quality while raising awareness of the key role of timber construction in moving towards a greener future.
Each session will feature the project’s authors and technical managers, who will explain both the architectural approach and the technical and construction aspects. The programme’s coordination and logistics will be handled by WWF.
Catalunya Open Wood aspires to become a meeting point for professionals, students and citizens interested in sustainable architecture. The cycle offers the opportunity to see, listen and learn in situ, reinforcing the idea that timber construction is not only a trend but a consolidated, transformative reality.
