Wu Ming-Yi

Wu Ming-Yi (Taoyuan, 1971) is a Taiwanese environmental-fantasy writer with a PhD in Chinese Literature, who combines writing with giving classes in Sinophone Literature at the National University of Dong Hwa. Wu gained popularity with his publications about nature, The book of butterflies (2000) and The way of butterflies (2003), which he illustrated himself. However, it is his ecological-fantasy novel, The Man with the Compound Eyes (2011), which has brought him international recognition. Translated into over fifteen languages, the book is an ambitious exploration of Taiwan‘s identity, the cost of environmental degradation and how humans try to make sense of the world.
