Federico García Lorca / Oriol Broggi

One of the best-known plays by the author from Granada takes on a new life in a production that places the emphasis on the poetic nature and the musicality of this classic, a tragedy about life, love and death.

Tragedy is the fundamental aspect of this story full of symbolisms in which customs and tradition unleash tragedy in the lives of characters driven by their vital impulses. Passions, jealousy, sombre feelings and, to cap it all, a death that only the power of love is able to vanquish. Oriol Broggi, the director of the production, has interpreted the work as a long poem featuring the groom and bride, Leonardo and his wife. Around them there develops a series of scenes marked by the entrances and exits of strong brusque characters, inhabitants of a landscape composed of whitewashed walls and red blood. A cast of exceptional actors, including Clara Segura and Nora Navas, enliven a production in which music is also especially prominent. It is played live by Joan Garriga, an accordionist and singer who has brought to life two musical projects that have been embedded in the musical memory of an entire generation of Catalans: Dusminguet and La Troba Kung-Fú.

The play is directed by Oriol Broggi, who has repeatedly won awards for production such as L’orfe del clan dels Zhao, Incendis and Antígona, but who has also been responsible for such memorable productions as Al nostre gust, a creation of 2015; Una giornata particolare, by Ettore Scola, and Cels, by Wajdi Mouawad.
