In the 1960s, music started to be mixed with other emerging arts and with new technological poetics. Moreover, in consonance with the revolutionary spirit of the time, music also took on new socio-political and gender significance. This was a time when sound (as occurred in the dramatic and fine arts) began to become more a context for experimentation than a closed work.
