This Japanese composer and pianist defies the conventions and fuses jazz with all kinds of musical genres in her energetic, complex and sophisticated live performances.
They say that Hiromi’s live shows leave audiences feeling as if an electric current had run through their bodies, particularly their ears, such is the mastery, instrumental brilliance and extraordinary improvisational skills of this musician, born in 1979, who studied classical music as a child. She was seventeen years old when she met Chick Corea by chance, and in 2009 the pair demolished generational and cultural barriers by recording the double album Duet together. The truth is that, as we can see from her huge back catalogue, Hiromi recognises neither frontiers nor genres and is capable of enjoying classical music and heavy metal equally. Her music fuses jazz with rock and even classical sounds, but to her these labels mean nothing. What matters is what she is able to achieve, aided only by her piano: to transmit her creative energy to spectators at festivals around the world in each of her fabulous live shows.
