Un altre dia diví

Ferran Utzet

A performance on the desire of being and communicating in times of isolation, a cheeky visual reflection on the lockdown.

The performance space is a closed shed which protects the artists from the gaze of the audience. Shut in this opaque space, confined among waste, two characters who look like they’ve fled the Court of Louis XVI play with repetition, accumulation and the wait to make the passing of time more bearable. We attend, observing them with our mobile phones, watching them in their desperate struggle to give meaning to an existence which has disconnected from everything: time, nature, collective being, sacred things. Incapable of any sort of spiritual solace, all that is left to them is the fragile bond with the other, the body, and perhaps art.

Un altre dia diví is an audio-visual and stage performance very loosely based on the play Happy Days, by Samuel Beckett, Dangerous Liaisons, by Choderlos de Laclos, the installation Pain Space, by Joseph Beuys and the collective experience of lockdown.

Ferran Utzet, who has put his name to stage productions such as Esperant Godot, by Samuel Beckett, Dansa dagost, by Brian Friel (Butaca Award for best show in 2016) and Sopa de pollastre amb ordi, by Arnold Wesker (Butaca Award for best show in 2018) directs this multi-disciplinary performance. Curated by Enric Puig Punyet, this production was jointly created with the artists Llapispanc and Natàlia Carminati, linked to the art factory La Escocesa, the set designer Paula Miranda and the actress Lucía Lerendegui.

Un altre dia diví is part of the cycle Creation and Museums, a series of performing arts productions where artists from different disciplines come into contact with museums and cultural institutions in Barcelona and interact with their installations, collections and spaces in a series of productions in theatre, dance, circus and music.
